About the Band

The Gallows Hillbillies is a stringband brought together largely from members of the band which plays for the "Tappalachian" Appalachian cloggers

The band's line up is flexible, depending upon the availability of a number of very talented local musicans. Amongst those who have played for the band before are:

Tim Brooks - fiddle
Richard Henderson - banjo
Chris Lawrance - mandolin, guitar, banjo, bass
Alan Spindler - guitar
Ian Newman - bass

We have no regular caller, but can readily call upon one of a number of local and nationally known callers, Alan Simpson, Tim Rooke and Wendy Harrup to name but a few.

Our Music

is centred around American Old Time reels, but we willingly dip into English, Irish and Scottish sources for other styles and rhythms where the dances require them.
